unisex

This installation brings together small organic forms made of red wax, arranged inside an aluminum tray. Each piece belongs neither fully to a cell, nor to a body, nor to any recognizable biological process. Resembling “traces” or “remnants,” these fragments gesture simultaneously toward an embryonic beginning and a state of genderless existence.
Combined with the tray’s everyday, almost domestic connotations, the forms invite the viewer to reflect on fertility, identity, gender, and bodily materiality. Neither a dish being served nor a medical specimen, they appear more like a cluster of identities waiting to take shape.
This transitional state brings the work closer to the image of a “womb,” yet keeps it at a distance: nothing fully reveals itself; nothing settles. Unisex presents the fluidity of body and identity as a possibility of existence that has not yet found its final form.
